Anticipating: Les Mis

Did any of you grow up listening to musicals?  My family took a lot of roadtrips when I was young, and my parents always had Broadway soundtracks on hand – Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and my all time favorite – Les Miserables.  I could listen for hours and hours (usually with my favorite Eponine solos on repeat… I’m sure my parents loved hearing “On My Own” for the millionth time – I’m a sucker for the tragic characters), singing along at the top of my lungs.  I may have even earned the lead role in our church’s play by auditioning as Cosette, singing “Castle on a Cloud” when I was ten.  (Are you wondering now why I haven’t followed my calling to Hollywood? I know, right?  Me too.) I’ve seen Les Mis on stage a few times – once on that big ol’ NYC Broadway one.  I’m really hoping that this new movie version starring Anne Hathaway as Fantine lives up to this beautiful play.  What do y’all think of the cast?

  1. I’m a Les Mis freak. Obsessed! I was super, super leery of the movie when I first heard about it, but the trailer is BEAUTIFUL. I still can’t get behind Anne Hathaway as Fantine, but can handle Amanda Seyfried as Cosette. SO glad they got an unknown to plan Eponine (my all-time favorite character too!). I’m cautiously optimistic!
