Last year, I loved the emergence of colored denim. Neons, red, mint green – the trend was (and still is) hot. And now as fall approaches, I’m excited to see so many stylemakers sprucing up the basic pant in new rad ways. Bold prints, shiny leatherlike materials, new colors, and velvet! My personal fave right now is the above pair of cords. I know they’re crazy. I’m picturing them with a chambray button down, a drapey black blouse, or even a chunky, belted cableknit cream sweater.

Wanted: Ombre Hair
Usually around times of change – in the seasons, in my life, I tend to want to change my hair. Something about looking in the mirror every morning and seeing a fresh cut or ‘do reminds me that each day is new and I have the ability to embrace it. As spring turned into summer this year, I cut bangs. And I’ve loved them for the most part. But as autumn approaches, I’m wanting something new again. I’ve never dyed my hair, and I’m not really ready to take the plunge into a totally different color, but I kind of love the ombre look. It’s fun and different without the big commitment. And knowing me, I’ll probably want to chop off my hair into a bob (I do love short hair!) in the winter anyway.
What do you think? Is ombre a tired trend or should I try it?
What I Wore: Stripes and Print
Skirt: Anthropologie, sold out; Peplum Top: Anthropologie, sold out; Sandals: Urban Outfitters (now on sale!); Earrings: Goldie O (website coming soon!)
It takes some guts to mix prints, but the fun of matching up the unexpected is so worth it. And I love the peplum trend – so girly and flattering. With this maxi, the look is super feminine. I’m excited to pair the top with a pair of high waisted black skinnies in the fall for a more edgy look.
Thanks again to my awesome little sister Audrey for the photo sesh!

I’m so excited to see the urban elopement I styled earlier this summer featured on Elizabeth Anne Designs today! The post is really lovely – I’d love it if you showed EAD some love. Thanks, ladies! Y’all made my day.
Travel: The British Virgin Islands
30 people. 3 sailboats. 1 week in paradise. We just got back from sailing around the British Virgin Islands, y’all! As you might expect, it was amazing. One part camping and one part Caribbean vacation, this trip was adventurous, beautiful, and pretty affordable. We are SO blessed to have incredible friends – Will & Carrie – who grew up sailing and organized the entire trip, including our itinerary, boat rentals, budget, and groceries. And thank you to more talented friends – Win & Mason – who captained our boat, L’Attitude II. I know nothing about sailing, and because of these awesome people, the trip was relaxed, carefree, and just about perfect.
I had never been to the Caribbean before and always pictured lounging at some resort, staring into the clear cerulean waves from a white, sandy beach. And we’ve done the resort thing before (our honeymoon in Costa Rica), and it is everything it’s cracked up to be. But I have to say – sailing is the way to go. It was just… gorgeous. And so fun. We had 3 boats between all of us friends, so we’d caravan across the waters each morning to our next destination. We saw giant turtles, flying stingrays (no idea they did that!), and lots of pretty fish. We snorkeled almost every day, played sand volleyball, hiked around for some amazing views, and drank too many rum cocktails (the rum is amazingly cheap down there!).
It was also our first real ‘friend vacation’ as a married couple. We’ve done trips by ourselves and trips with our families, but this vacation was entirely different. Most of the people were Michael’s friends from college, and it was a blast for me to get to know them better and to make some memories as a couple with them. Vacations with friends are something I hope we do every year.
I could go on and on, but I’ll hold off. Have you ever been to the BVIs? What did you do there?!
What I Wore: Blue and Yellow
Pants: Level 99, similar; Top: Anthropologie; Shoes: Urban Outfitters; Leather Bracelets: Leather store in Wisconsin; Gold Bracelet: Anthropologie; Earrings: Goldie O (website coming soon!); Lipstick: NYX in Shocking Pink
You know those mornings where you stare into your closet, your hair still swept up into a towel and soaking wet, for days? Okay, maybe not days, but long enough that you’re forced to skip that much needed cup of coffee? Well, I’ve had too many of those days lately, and it’s not for lack of clothes. So I thought I might try some outfit posts to catalog what combinations work and what I haven’t tried yet. I like to force myself out of my comfort zone every once in a while, so hopefully this will help with that too.
ps – Have you tried NYX matte lipsticks? They are my new favorite. They go on smooth, last all day, and come in some great colors. And they’re only $6!
All photo cred goes to my lovely and talented sister, Audrey. Thanks, lovey.
Watch: The Hill and Wood
Our good friend, Sam Bush, and his band, The Hill and Wood, recently released their first music video, and it is, simply put, beautiful. The ethereal way it’s shot, the pastoral setting, and the early-century costumes are (to me) reminiscent of Atonement, which I loved. It’s straight out of a dream. Congratulations, Hill and Wood!
