Our Wedding on Style Me Pretty

Virginia wedding

I was so thrilled this morning when I saw that our wedding was published on Style Me Pretty!  Congratulations to our amazing photographer, Jon Schaaf!  The day was seriously such a labor of love from so, so many family and friends.  I get emotional just thinking about each of you, and I hope if you’re reading this and were part of our day, you know how deeply we care for you.  It is amazing to see how all of the details (the jewelry, the bow ties, the lace tablescapes, the Nana’s-tea-in-a-mason-jar favors, paper suite, ceremony music – seriously, do you know my aunt and Sam Bush?!, my father’s prayer, the toasts, the candlelit sendoff) came together, but it is even more incredible knowing the beautiful faces who cheered our pronouncement and danced the night away with us!

I had so much fun designing, styling, and planning my wedding, and now with a few more styling jobs under my belt (you’ll be seeing them once they’re published!), I’ve decided to take on a few select weddings or events.  If you’re interested in chatting, please reach out!  I can be reached at mallorybjoyce@gmail.com or by leaving a comment here!  Let’s get a party started!

Moments: Alabama Weekend

Alabama weekend

I hope y’all had a sunny Memorial Day weekend full of lemonade and cookouts to kick off summer.  We had a pretty amazing weekend ourselves – roadtripped with one of our fave couples, the Klebergs, down to the sweet Southern state of Alabama to see our dear friends, Sarah Catherine and Karver, get hitched!  It was the perfect excuse to take off a little early and enjoy a full few days of southern hospitality.  The wedding was at the home of the bride in the quaint, little town of Florence – how fun is it to explore the place a close friend grew up?  We spent the majority of our time sunbathing at the yacht club where the men wore visors and croakies (Michael was in heaven) and the women sipped on gin and tonics.  If you’re ever passing through Florence, we highly recommend grabbing dinner at City Hardware (we did… twice).  And if you plan to drink a beer or two poolside on a Sunday, be certain to buy your brews the Saturday before (the sale of alcohol on the Sabbath is prohibited – we know, we got the evil eye for trying!).

Photos above from my iPhone: The invitation (by Rock, Paper, Scissors), Michael by the pool, passing through Tennessee (goodness, the South can be beautiful) and the sweetest thing: Mr. Rice serenading the bride and groom at the beginning of the gorgeous reception.

We had the best time.  Sarah Catherine was a beautiful, gracious bride.  Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Bolton!  Can’t wait til you’re back from the honeymoon!

New Love: Ashi Studio

Fashion Inspiration

I recently discovered Mohammad Ashi, a Saudi designer, and I’m just so taken with his couture garments from the Mode 2 collection.  This particular collection was inspired by Emily Dickinson (of whom I’m also very fond) and one of her poems about birds.  There’s nothing super crazy or out-of-the-box about his designs, but somehow they feel so fresh.  You can tell Ashi is a master of fabrics as each gown is draped so beautifully and retains a very architectural edge.  Each garment highlights a woman’s frame so well, with just the right amount of volume and curve.  If I were walking a red carpet anytime soon (or able to wear a wedding gown again), I’d be all over these.

Color Affair: Tangerine Tango

When I was flipping through the Lela Rose Ready To Wear 2012 images, I was completely taken by the long, painted gown.  The yellow, white, and indigo brush strokes are unexpected and add a bit of edge to the otherwise ethereal design (also love that subtle peplum!).  I was inspired to make a moodboard featuring 2012′s color of the year, Tangerine Tango.

On this cold February day, I’m looking forward to some bold pops of spring color!  Beginning with that citrus lip a la Kate Bosworth.
